Afternoon Sail
Sailing on a vast expanse of ocean or lake in a small boat creates a profound connection with the water beneath you. Every subtle pattern and current is keenly felt, translated and communicated through the thin skin of the boat.
This painting was inspired by a sail on Lake Michigan on the Friends Goodwill, a reconstructed 19th-century sloop. They let me steer the little boat, and the moment I touched the heavy wooden tiller, I felt the life and energy in the water and boat. The water tugged and pushed the rudder, and the little boat responded, cutting through the currents, dancing through the waves.
Oil on board. 8 ”w x 8”h. Shipping included.
