Bear Valley Night Hawks (Print)
Bear Valley Nighthawks
By Margaret Sloan
8” x 10” Giclée print from original watercolor
One evening at the Bear Valley Music Festival, I was surprised to see nighthawks boomerang through the sky. I hadn’t realized they lived in the Northern Sierra! But I called the local birding society and they confirmed what I’d seen.
Nighhawks fly at dawn and dusk, eating mosquitos and other flying insects. Because they nest on the ground, they are endangered, and their numbers are decreasing rapidly.
Count yourself blessed if you see them while camping. It’s one of the joys of nature to watch them whipping and flipping in the sky, and if you listen carefully, you might hear the booming sound they make as the wind rushes through their feathers.
This 8” x 10” print is on premium watercolor paper, printed with archival inks.
